This match was made in doggie heaven

What started as a search for one new companion ended with two rescue dogs finding their forever home and a Camden family discovering just how much love shelter pets have to give.

Maple and Vovo, formerly known as Betsy and Eileen, were adopted from Camden Council’s Animal Care Facility by Ben and Bron Towers after the couple spent months searching for the right match for their dog, Montè, following the loss of his canine companion.

The bonded sisters arrived at their new home shy and unsure of their surroundings, but with time, patience and plenty of love, they have blossomed into confident and affectionate family pets.

Bron said there was an immediate connection when they met the pair.

“We spent five months organising doggie dates with potential matches, but nothing seemed to work. We certainly weren’t planning on bringing home two more dogs, but everything changed the moment Montè met them,’’ she said.

“They were a bonded pair and quite scared and withdrawn when we first met them, but our boy absolutely fell in love. We instantly loved their dynamic together.

“From the moment I locked eyes with them, I just knew they were meant to be ours. There was an immediate connection that I can’t really explain.’’

After arriving home, Maple and Vovo took some time to adjust, preferring to stay close to each other while they settled into their new environment.

Today, they are unrecognisable from the timid dogs they once were. They enjoy walks, meeting new people, playing in the yard and spending as much time as possible with their family.

Like many rescue pets, they simply needed the opportunity to feel safe and secure before their personalities could shine through.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said Maple and Vovo’s journey highlights the incredible impact pet adoption can have on both animals and their new owners.

“Every animal that comes through our Animal Care Facility deserves the opportunity to find a loving forever home,’’ she said.

“Maple and Vovo’s story is a wonderful example of the difference adoption can make. What began as a second chance for two shelter dogs has become a source of companionship, laughter and joy for an entire family.

“Our Animal Care Facility works hard to ensure every animal is given the best opportunity to find the right home, and we encourage anyone considering a pet to explore adoption first.’’

Bron said adopting from the shelter had been one of the most rewarding experiences for her family.

“What surprised us most was how much love they had to give,’’ she said.

“Watching them grow in confidence, feel safe and become such an important part of our family has been incredible. We adopted them thinking we were giving them a second chance, but they’ve given us so much in return.’’

Residents considering adding a pet to their family are encouraged to visit Camden Council’s Animal Care Facility, meet the animals available for adoption and discover the difference a rescue pet can make.
