Speaking ahead of this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations, he said: “It’s wonderful to once again mark this important milestone with a program of community events to get involved in.

This year recognises the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week and the theme, 50 Years of Deadly, is a tribute to the elders, artists and organisers who created and supported NAIDOC Week.

“NAIDOC Week gives us the chance to celebrate the knowledge, culture and achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, while giving everyone the opportunity to come together in celebration,” Mayor Lound said.

“I strongly encourage everyone to join us in celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week this July,” he said.
