Recycling will soon be made easier across Campbelltown’s public spaces with the introduction of ‘’exchange for change’’ bin baskets as part of a six-month trial.
More than 70 bin baskets and cradles are being installed on existing public space bins in more than 40 locations in the local government area of Campbelltown.
The trial is part of the NSW Return and Earn bin basket program.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to place eligible drink bottles and cans into the baskets, instead of the bin.
The containers in the baskets can then be collected by anyone in the community and taken to a refund point to receive the 10-cent return, helping to support recycling efforts across Campbelltown.
“This is a practical way for people to choose recycling on the go,’’ says Mayor Darcy Lound, who is pictured above.
“By recycling eligible containers over binning them, residents are helping reduce waste to landfill, support recycling and even help community groups or individuals collecting,” he said.
“Small actions can have a big impact. Every container placed in a basket helps reduce waste, limit landfill and creates an opportunity for individuals or community members to benefit from the 10-cent return.”
With $1.65million in container refunds currently going unclaimed in Campbelltown each year, the “exchange for change’’ baskets provide a convenient recycling option while helping keep public spaces clean and green.
