Financial Crime Squad detectives have charged three men under Stike Force Loughton over an alleged insurance fraud syndicate worth more than $1 million.
Two of the men were arrested at Denham Court, while the third was charged after being arrested at Hinchinbrook.
Strike Force Loughton was established in March 2024 to investigate suspected fraudulent payments made by an employee at a worker’s compensation and insurance claim company.
During the investigation, strike force detectives found that between November 2022 and September 2023, a 38-year-old man allegedly arranged for 787 fraudulent invoices totalling $1,000,957.55 to be unlawfully paid to two other men.
In his role as a case manager, the man is accused of approving false invoices for lawn mowing, cleaning and other domestic services, which were then processed and paid out.
Detectives will allege in court that the funds were electronically transferred between the bank accounts of all three men.
Yesterday, strike force detectives with the assistance of the South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group conducted search warrants in Hinchinbrook and Denham Court.
A 38-year-old Hinchinbrook man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station. He was charged with 88 counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception and one count of knowingly direct activities of criminal group.
He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday).
A 37-year-old Denham Court man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
He was charged with 42 counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception and one count of participating in a criminal group.
He was also refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today.
A 40-year-old Denham Court man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
He was charged with 46 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, one count of participating in criminal group .
He was also charged with supplying a prohibited drug, after detectives allegedly seized 40 grams of cocaine.
He too was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today.
