The second instalment of Camden Art Collections, a suite of artworks acquired between 1988 and 2003, is currently on exhibition at Alan Baker Art Gallery.
It opened earlier this month and will run until May 2026.
Paintings, textile, photo media and works on paper are all part of the exhibition., which highlights pieces acquired through the annual Camden Art Prize, alongside purchased and gifted works.
Among the highlights are gifted artworks from Shonan and Kashiwa City, Japan, presented through the Camden International Friendship Association (CIFA).
This cultural exchange started in 1983 and was formally recognised in 1997 with the signing of the International Friendship Agreement.
A standout feature of the gallery’s entry is the Cowpastures Memorial Quilt, created by the Camden Quilters Guild and unveiled by NSW Governor, Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair, in 1995.
This intricate work remains a beloved tribute to local heritage and community pride.
“This collection tells the story of Camden through art – our people, places and history,” says Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli.
“Each piece reflects a moment in time and a connection to our community that continues to grow stronger with every year.
“I encourage all our residents to come along and see what this exhibition has to offer. With free entry, it’s the perfect day out.”
The exhibition features work by renowned artists including Elisabeth Cummings, Suzanne Archer, Alan D. Baker, Pro Hart, Rizwana Ahmad, Jane Bennett, David Fairbairn, David Manks and many others.
The Alan Baker Art Gallery is located at Macaria, 37 John Street, Camden.
