The Minns Labor Government says it’s fast tracking a rezoning proposal in Catherine Field to unlock more than 3,000 new homes in one of South West Sydney’s growing communities.

The 164 hectare Springfield Road, Catherine Field Precinct is poised to become a vibrant community with easy access to sporting fields, cycleways, walking paths, and a neighbourhood centre.

A key feature of the proposal is the accompanying delivery of new roads, stormwater infrastructure, and recreational areas, to make sure the community is supported by the amenities it needs to thrive.

There is also a new high school planned to open in neighbouring Leppington in 2027.

The Springfield Road, Catherine Field Precinct is located close to the soon to be open Western Sydney International Airport, providing more opportunities for future airport workers to live close to their jobs.

If it gets the green light, the rezoning proposal will transform currently underutilised land into a well-connected, sustainable, and bushfire resilient community.

The state significant rezoning proposal for Springfield Road, Catherine Field combines two planning proposals that were in preparation for Springfield Road North and Catherine Park North.

The proposal will now progress under the State Significant Rezoning Policy, which provides coordinated delivery of housing and infrastructure.

It is expected that the proposal will be placed on public exhibition in the second half of 2026, allowing the community to provide feedback.

Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty welcomed the fast tracking.

“This rezoning proposal is about building a complete community. Alongside up to 3,000 new homes, it delivers essential infrastructure like roads, drainage, open space, and community facilities to support families as the area grows,’’ he said.

“The Minns Labor Government is making sure that as we plan for more homes, we’re also investing in the infrastructure that keeps South West Sydney connected, liveable, and thriving.”
