Christmas is around the corner, but outside one home right here in the heart of Macarthur a light display pays homage to another Aussie legend: the mango.

An Oran Park man’s love for mangoes has inspired a festive celebration that’s lighting up more than just taste buds.

To pay homage to both his surname and his love for sweet, delicious Australian mangoes, local father and Christmas enthusiast Alex Mangos – known for lighting up the neighbourhood each year with his showstopping displays – has transformed his family home into a mango-inspired wonderland.

The display, which was switched on last night, features hundreds of twinkling orange lights and larger-than-life mango decorations that celebrate the season of mangoes.

“With a last name like mine, I wanted to pay homage to my love for mangoes and make the house shine in mango gold, as if sunshine and Christmas rolled into one,’’ says Alex Mangos, pictured below.

“Honestly, my family and I just can’t help but smile when the lights come on.

“We’ve been doing it for years, to help fundraise for the Sydney Children’s Hospital, it’s our family’s way of spreading a little Christmas cheer while also giving back but this year we wanted to make it extra special, and what’s more iconic than a delicious Aussie mango,’’ Mr Mangos said.

Sydney Children’s Hospital helped his family when his son was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age.

Blending classic festive cheer with the vibrant glow of mangoes, the dazzling display celebrates the Australian mango season.

“It’s been wonderful to see Alex’s creativity and passion for mangoes shine through in such a beautiful way.” says Loretta Bowen, proud Australian mango grower and Christmas children’s book author.

“Alex’s Christmas lights perfectly capture the magic of mangoes – helping share the sunshine and joy with Aussies right across the country.”

The Mango Christmas Lights display will shine bright from dusk at 7pm to 10.30pm each evening until November 19 at 12 Bourne Ridge, Oran Park.

So as the days grow warmer and the nights twinkle, Sydneysiders are invited to celebrate the season of mangoes by grabbing one from their local grocery store and stopping by to see Alex’s ‘Tis the Season for Mangoes’ Christmas Light activation in Oran Park.
