South West Sydney Orchestras (SWSO) look set to finish the year with a bang, bringing a touch of Hollywood to Campbelltown.
Their end of year concert, Lights, Camera, SWSO! on Sunday, November 23, will feature a collaboration with the St Patrick’s ensemble and the South West Sydney Philharmonic.
Around 100 musicians will be performing at Lights Camera, SWSO! In the Mary Shiel Centre at St Patrick’s College.
“We will be playing a variety of music themes from the movies,’’ says Jade Tan, president of SWSO.
“It promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of music.’’
From Top Gun to Mission Impossible, Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings, and the musical scores from other popular movies will be on the musical menu at St Patrick’s College.
“We’ve had a pretty busy year with performances and concerts held every term,’’ Jade said.
“This means that our musicians generally have about 6-8 weeks to learn new repertoire.
“We are excited to showcase our growth this November to celebrate the end of an exciting year.’’
SWSO also are launching a new initiative in term four – a beginners adult ensemble for proficient musicians.
“Our initiative will allow adults who have discovered music later in life or those wanting to reignite their musical passion the chance to be part of a music community,’’ Jade said.
“Our first session starts on Thursday, October 16, 7pm at Harrington Park community centre.’’
Aside from music performances, SWSO, which was founded in 1987, host the Macarthur Performing Arts Challenge.
SWSO has more than 60 members currently, from primary school students to adults and offers four ensembles: junior strings, senior strings, band, and the Fisher’s Ghost Youth Orchestra.
