Man, 29, in court over Grasmere fire

A man has been charged with arson after a home near Camden was destroyed last month.

He was arrested almost 50km away in Bankstown where he will be appearing in court today.

The incident took place about 5.45am on Saturday, August 203 when emergency services were called to Domenics Place, Grasmere, following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which had caused extensive damage to the property.

The house was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

A crime scene was established, and detectives attached to Camden Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following enquiries, police stopped a vehicle at a car park on Rickard Road, Bankstown, and arrested the driver – a 29-year-old man (pictured above).

Police searched the car and allegedly found prohibited drugs.

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with damaging property by fire, supplying a prohibited drug, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, and driving a motor vehicle while being disqualified.

He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 3 September 2025).
