The NSW Government will spend more than $35 million for land acquisition, planning and design to support the delivery of vital schools and road connections in the Camden area.

The funding includes $20 million for land acquisition to support future schools in the Southwest Growth Area, $9.5 million for land acquisition towards the Rickard Road-Ingleburn Road intersection upgrade at Leppington,  and $6 million for planning and design of the Raby Road and Devonshire Road extension at Leppington.

In welcoming the announcement, Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said that the funding for land acquisitions aligned council’s The time is now campaign priorities.

“We know our area is growing at one of the fastest rates in the country,’’ said Mayor Cagney, who is pictured above.

“This growth must be matched with timely investment in schools and road upgrades,” she said.

“This announcement is an important recognition of what council has been saying for some time, that the time is now to fund the essential infrastructure that underpins livability and ensures our community has access to quality education and efficient transport connections.’’

Mayor Cagney said the investment, even though insufficient to construct Rickard or Ingleburn Road, which are both essential routes for access to the school, town centre and train station, would make a difference on the ground as the community continues to grow.

“This funding will help immensely by supporting the delivery of schools close to home and improving the safety and efficiency of our road network,” she said.

“Our residents want to see progress that keeps pace with growth, and this announcement is a clear step in that direction. Council will continue working alongside the NSW Government to ensure Camden remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The time is now is Camden Council’s advocacy campaign calling for the delivery of essential infrastructure and services to match the area’s rapid population growth.

It highlights priorities such as schools, hospitals, roads and public transport to ensure Camden remains a connected and thriving community into the future.
