New traffic signage is on the way along a busy stretch of the Old Hume Highway at Camden South to improve safety and ease congestion.

Member for Camden Sally Quinnell says No stopping, No parking, and Bus zone signage is being installed along 600 metres of the Old Hume Highway between Armour Avenue and Macarthur Circuit.

“The local Camden South community has repeatedly raised concerns about the limited visibility caused by large trucks parking along this stretch of road,’’ Ms Quinnell said.

“These new signs are a step in addressing that issue, helping to make the area safer and more accessible for everyone.”

The new signage will support improved access to bus services, reduce shoulder congestion, enhance visibility for motorists and pedestrians, and ensure emergency vehicles can move through the area when needed.

“This is just the first step in addressing the serious safety and visibility issues on the Old Hume Highway, and we’ll continue looking at long term solutions to meet the needs of our growing community,” Ms Quinnell said.

Transport for NSW has acknowledged that the area has been used by heavy vehicles as an informal rest stop.

Drivers are being encouraged to use dedicated rest areas nearby, including a future $80 million purpose-built heavy vehicle rest facility under development at a six-hectare site near Eastern Creek.

“I want to thank the community for their strong advocacy on this issue and for their patience during these works. Together, we’re delivering safer roads and a better quality of life for Camden,” Ms Quinnell said.
