While work will start in 2026 to upgrade the safety level at the Appin Road and St Johns Road intersection, residents who would like to make suggestions will be able to do so from this coming Monday.

Transport for NSW says the aim of the upgrade will be to improve traffic flows and achieve better safety outcomes for the intersection located near Bradbury.

However it is also about managing increasing traffic volumes into the future as more people move into their home at Gilead nearby.

Central to the upgrade will be an additional right hand turn lane from St Johns Road onto Appin Road, while the Appin Road right hand turn bay into St Johns Road will also be lengthened and improved.

Further work will see a traffic island reconfigured and a new slip lane along Appin Road.

Other work will include the upgrading of utilities around the intersection, improved lighting and new pedestrian paths.

There were no koalas recorded in this area while studies were undertaken, but Transport for NSW says it does recognise the significance of colonies throughout the region.

Transport for NSW says it will undertake a tree and hollow replacement program to compensate for vegetation removal and encourage the sustainability of local fauna through the area.

From July 20 until August 10, the public is invited to have their say on the proposed upgrade.

Details, including how to provide a submission, can be found – from next Monday, July 21 – at the website for transport.nsw.gov.au
