Live life with passion and never be afraid to fail – that’s the advice that 103 year old Kathleen Jones says would give to her 20 year old self.
Kathleen was asked about that on the eve of her birthday next Monday, when she will turn 104, which must seem such a remarkable achievement for the rest of us.
Kathleen has called Whiddon Easton Park Glenfield home for the past two and a half years.
She has lived a life of independence, intellect, and quiet adventure and is known for her love of puzzles and the great outdoors.
Born in 1921, Kathleen spent her career as a pharmacist, a respected role that suited her keen eye for detail and lifelong curiosity.
She never married or had children – a choice she says is her secret to a long and happy life.
Instead, Kathleen poured her energy into her passions: crosswords, writing letters, reading the newspaper, and connecting with close friends by phone.
She was also a proud member of the St Peter’s Church choir, forming lasting friendships through her love of music.
A true adventurer at heart, Kathleen fondly recalls camping across the Australian outback as one of the best experiences of her life.
She also had a deep love of gardening and enjoyed being outdoors surrounded by nature.
These days Kathleen is a cherished part of the Whiddon community.
While she no longer reads the newspaper as she once did, she still receives it daily, a comforting ritual that helps her stay connected to the world around her.
Happy birthday, Kathleen Jones, we hope you have a great day.
