Three public high schools in the Macquarie Fields area have been included in funding for the High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs.
The programs aim to extend student learning across a range of subjects, as part of the government’s broader commitment to expand gifted education across every public school.
Sarah Redfern High School, James Meehan High School, and Casula High School are the three local schools included in the program.
All up 33 schools across NSW will receive the funding needed to implement the programs.
Casula High School will get a new creative and performing arts facility, while funding for James Meehan High School will go towards a new café facility and an upgrade to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) facilities.
Sarah Redfern High School will gain a new creative and performing arts facility and upgrades to other parts of the school.
Local MP Anoulack Chanthivong, the State Member for Macquarie Fields, welcomed the funding for local schools.
“This exciting Budget announcement is an investment in our local public schools and will support local students to achieve the best possible learning outcomes,’’ he said.
“Our gifted and talented students will have access to first-class facilities at their local public school that will enhance their learning and open the door to a world of opportunities.”
The Minns Labor Government is investing a total of $150 million in the upgrades to support the rollout of programs for thousands of high potential and gifted students across NSW.
Schools were selected based on student need and enrolment capacity.
Teachers at the 33 schools will receive dedicated professional learning to support the delivery of HPGE programs.
Broader professional development will also be provided to teachers across all NSW public schools, ensuring consistent and expanded access to gifted education.
