
An 18 year old man from Ambarvale will appear in court today after he was charged over the dirt bike hit and run of a nine year old girl at Rosemeadow Oval on Thursday.
Police arrested the man at a home in Ambarvale about 7.15pm last night.
He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and other offences, including failing to offer assistance after allegedly running over the girl.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court later today (Saturday).
Police say that a dirt bike was located at the home and has been seized for forensic examination.
Emergency services received calls to report that a nine-year-old girl was struck by a dirt bike at the oval on Copperfield Drive around 5.45pm on Thursday.
Police were told a man was riding what is alleged to be an unregistered dirt bike across a sporting field, when the girl was struck and that the rider allegedly failed to stop and left the scene.
Witnesses to the incident, including a relative of the victim, ran to her assistance.
The child was treated for facial injuries by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before she was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.
Officers from Campbelltown Police Area Command established crime scene and specialist police attached to the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
