Be happy and do good if you want a long life

Joan Kingston says the secret to a long and happy life is simple: always smile, be happy, and do good – and never be cranky with people.

Joan celebrated her 100 plus one birthday yesterday, April 8 at Whiddon Easton Park in Glenfield, where she has been living for the past eight years.

Family members, fellow residents, and dedicated care team wished her a happy birthday.

Joan was born and raised in Australia and worked as a book binder before spending many years working at Woolworths and Coles after her marriage.

She has two children, one daughter and one son, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her family shares a very close bond, and Joan treasures the time spent with them.

Joan’s favourite pastimes include resting, watching the garden outside her window, and enjoying quiet moments with her family.

After moving to Whiddon Easton Park in 2017 at the age of 93, Joan quickly became known for her graceful adaptation to her new environment.

She has always appreciated the kindness and respect shown by her care team, which has made a lasting impact on her quality of life.

Whiddon has provided care to older Australians across regional, rural, and remote NSW and Southeast Queensland for more than 75 years.

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Joan when my mum was in Whiddon. She was a joy to chat to, always remembering my name and always asking about my mum. I had the privilege of teaching her granddaughter. Congratulations on a wonderful achievement.
