Residents are encouraged to show their support for the prevention and elimination of domestic and family violence during the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign, from today (Monday, November 25) to Sunday, December 10.

Across Campbelltown, community members are encouraged to keep an eye out for the seven connected purple benches, located around the Campbelltown Local Government Area.

The purple benches offer women a safe place to rest and easily access support services for domestic violence via a QR code. Each bench is placed in the community near a resource or provider to assist anyone seeking help.

“We are committed to working alongside our community collaboratively to strive towards ending domestic and family violence.” Mayor Darcy Lound said.

“Through our Domestic and Family Violence Strategy 2023-2026, and ongoing initiatives across the city, we will continue to play our role in raising awareness, advocating and supporting initiatives that contribute to a whole of community approach to this issue.”

“I would like to acknowledge the hard work and involvement of the Campbelltown Domestic Violence Committee, NSW Police, Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service, Minto Mall, Campbelltown Mall, Macarthur Square, Wests Macarthur Group and Macarthur Tavern for their commitment to this campaign and the convoy,” Mayor Lound said.

“The 16 Days of Activism campaign is an important reminder of the part we all play in this effort, and I urge everyone to think about how they can support their friends, family and community.’’

As part of the campaign, last Friday the Driving Out Violence convoy travelled through Campbelltown, featuring a range of vehicles representing community services, businesses, and emergency responders.

The convoy stopped at Minto Mall (pictured above), Campbelltown Mall and Macarthur Square, where participants explored information and activity stalls held by the Campbelltown Domestic Violence Committee.
