South West Sydney football teams, local councils, business leaders, community groups and government agencies have joined forces to ensure the region finally gets its fair share of economic investment.
Today, Business Western Sydney announces the South West Sydney Alliance (SWSA), a powerful new organisation that will unleash the potential of the Liverpool and Macarthur region.
NRL club Wests Tigers, A-League club Macarthur FC Bulls and Western Sydney University – alongside development giants Greenfield Development Co and Walker Corp – are just some of the big names involved.
Someone who will be involved in the Alliance and knows the Macarthur region like the back of her hand, Anne Parnham, believes it will be a big hit.
Ms Parnham was until recently president of the Greater Narellan business chamber. Before that she ran a successful lighting business in Blaxland Road, Campbelltown.
“This is going to be amazing for our area and I look forward to seeing all the progress, especially with the impressive list of members,’’ Ms Parnham said.
“I am a member of this alliance and will be attending all the meetings as the president of the Western Sydney Regional Advisory Council.’’
Business Western Sydney executive director and SWSA chair David Borger said the first of its kind alliance will advance a unique vision for the South West.
“For too long South West Sydney has been our nation’s forgotten city; that ends today,” Mr Borger said.
“Our advocacy will focus on creating a ‘golden triangle’ of economic development between the new airport at Bradfield, Liverpool and Campbelltown.
“South West Sydney is more than just a place to live.
“This powerful alliance will tirelessly advocate for critical road, rail, education and community projects that will connect our community to the new airport and deliver new jobs.
“This area is simply too big to ignore, and will no doubt form the epicentre of the upcoming federal election campaign.
“Our politicians and policy makers need to wake up, and wake up fast.”
South West Sydney’s population is set to explode over the next five years, surpassing the Gold Coast, and the Hunter-Newcastle region.
Today, the South West has a population larger than the state of Tasmania. The LGAs of Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool and Wollondilly will grow to 1 million people within 15 years.
“The SWSA will advocate for government investment in the region justified by its rapid population growth,” Mr Borger said.
“I am really excited to start working with the key local organisations that have joined the group to put the South West at the top of the agenda when government and businesses talk about the development of Greater Sydney.
“You’ll be hearing more from us in the coming weeks and months about our vision for the fastest growing region in NSW.”
Currently the Alliance Members are Camden Council, Campbelltown Council, Liverpool Council, Wollondilly Council, Macarthur Bulls FC, Wests Tigers RL, Marsdens Law Group, Greenfields Development Company, Plenary Group, South West Sydney Local Health District, Vitocco Enterprises, Walker Corp and Western Sydney University.
