Hockey star Nathanael Stewart back to play where it all started

Australia’s Hockey One League is coming to Narellan this Friday when NSW Pride take on Perth Thundersticks at the Macarthur Hockey Complex – and a local hero will be in the thick of it.

Captain of NSW Pride Nathanael Stewart, who came through the ranks in Macarthur, said he was very much looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd in the round 5 clash.

“For me, it’s huge – it’s where I played my first game of hockey,’’ Stewart said.

“It’s where Mum and Dad took me as a kid, and now I get to play here at the elite level.”

Hockey One League is Australia’s national hockey competition, so this will be an opportunity for Macarthur fans to see the best of the best compete agai9nst each other.

NSW Pride, the NSW based Hockey One League team, are the most successful and followed franchise in the league.

NSW Pride have both a women and men’s team and feature some of the best hockey players in Australia, including Hockeyroo and Kookaburras players.

Both teams will be playing on Friday night at Narellan.

NSW Pride’s men’s team will be up first at 7pm.

Following an amazing team win last weekend against Hockey Club Melbourne, NSW Pride’s women’s team are looking to continue their winning form as they take on top of the table Perth Thundersticks directly after the men’s match at 8.30pm.

The member for Camden, Sally Quinnell, a big hockey fan, can’t wait for tomorrow night.

“Hosting Australia’s Hockey One League at Macarthur Hockey Complex is a great victory for Metropolitan South West Hockey Association and sport in Camden,’’ Ms Quinnell said.

“The association have been working with Hockey NSW for months preparing for this fixture and their efforts should be commended.

“I look forward to cheering on both NSW Pride men’s and women’s teams and seeing Nathanael play on home ground.

“I also look forward to seeing Perth Thunderstick and Courtney Schonell, who first played for Harrington Park Hockey Club,” Ms Quinnell said.
