Halfway through this season the Rams looked like they weren’t going to be able to defend the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW competition title they won in 2023.
Badly out of form, they stumbled from defeat to defeat, scraping the odd win or draw here and there.
But as they say, form is temporary, while class is permanent, and in the past month and a half this mighty Rams side have started hitting their straps.
They have now won at least five in a row, including a 5-0 thumping of the Bulls FC Academy at Lynwood Park on Sunday.
What’s the best part: well, with one game to go the Rams (53) are now on top of the ladder, two points clear of their biggest rivals, Apia Leichhardt (51).
As it happens, the two will meet in the final home and away fixture to determine who wins the minor premiership in 2024.
The match, next Sunday at Lambert Park, also looks like a rehearsal of the grand final, as Rams and Leichhardt have been the best two sides this season.
Rams need just a draw to claim the premiership, while the home side need to win.
Against the Bulls, the Rams failed to click in the first 45 minutes, with the score locked at 0-0 when the sides went to the dressing sheds for the break.
It was different story in the second half, with the Rams putting the foot on the accelerator, scoring five unanswered goals.
Just six minutes in, Bronte Trew opened the scoring in spectacular fashion. It started with Beth Gordon leading a counter attack, before playing the ball wide right to Trew.
The pacey winger took one touch before blasting the ball into the far top corner from just outside the area.
Kelli Brown (59th, 72nd minute) and India Breier (64th, 73rd minute) completed the job, putting the Academy team to the sword in a second half blitz.
