Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Minto just before midnight last night they believe was started outside by a group of people.

But they are also looking into the assault of one of the three occupants, none of whom were injured by the fire.

Emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on Perisher Circuit shortly after 11pm (Friday, August 2).

The fire was extinguished by NSW Fire and Rescue; however, the front loungeroom of the home was damaged.

Initial inquiries have led police from Campbelltown City Police Area Command to believe that the front of the premises had been set alight by a number of unknown people.

At the same time, a 59-year-old male occupant of the home went to inquire when he was assaulted with a metal bar as he opened the front door.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 59-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Two other occupants of the house who were present were uninjured.

Officers established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police and fire investigators.

As investigations continue, anyone with information about the matter – or who were in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – are urged to contact Campbelltown Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
