James Elazzi is an acclaimed playwright who has been nominated for the NSW Premier’s Literary Award three times.
He also lives in Campbelltown – and Kearns to be exact.
His previous works have included Lady Tabouli, Queen Fatima and Son of Byblos.
For his latest work, Karim, Elazzi will step up and also co-direct when his work hits the stage at Riverside Theatres Parramatta from July 25.
If the sold-out seasons of previous works are any guide, Karim will be another feather in his cap.
The setting of Karim is not too far from where Elazzi lives in Campbelltown.
A complex story of family ties and generational divides, Karim takes place in the Wollondilly Shire town of Tahmoor.
How do you leave when you can’t leave? Karim and Beth watch the trains roll into Tahmoor and dream of getting out of their small town.
Joe searches the streets of Tahmoor for hidden treasures that might help pay the bills, while Abdul opens his home and his heart to a young man in need.
Karim’s life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers an oud, a traditional Middle Eastern instrument, and realises that this may be the key to a new destiny.
