A dedicated driver testing centre at Macquarie Fields opened just six months ago has proven popular for people wanting to get on the road.

More than 4,000 driving tests and 1,000 computer-based knowledge tests have been completed six months since the opening of the Macquarie Fields Driver Testing Centre.

The centre was opened in December 2023 to increase access to driving tests particularly for overseas licence holders required to convert to a NSW licence as part of regulation changes.

Overseas licence holders have taken advantage of the facility with 56 per cent of driving tests being completed by that cohort.

For anyone aiming to get their P or L plates, about 300 driving tests and 300 computer-based knowledge tests are available each week.

A team of up to 15 Service NSW team members including driver testers work to provide high-quality customer service and assist people who are progressing through the licensing journey.

“The Macquarie Fields Driver Testing Centre has been incredibly popular with customers from across Sydney visiting to sit a test, and the great thing is people don’t need to wait to book a driving or knowledge test at Macquarie Fields,” says Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong.

“With new timeslots opening weekly for six weeks in advance, you can book a day and time that suits you.”

Overseas licence holders who are newly arrived, plan to reside long-term in NSW and wish to continue driving here have six months to convert to a NSW licence with some required to take a driving and knowledge test.

Drivers who have been using an overseas licence and arrived before 1 July 2023 have until 1 March 2025 to obtain a NSW licence.

The changes have seen an 11 per cent increase in the driving tests being completed by overseas licence holders this financial year compared with the same time last year.

“It is important services such as a driving test are accessible to all communities and this dedicated facility means Service NSW can support both local residents and people newly arrived in NSW to get on the road sooner and safer,” says NSW minister for customer service and digital government Jihad Dib said:

“The volume of people who have utilised this new driver testing facility demonstrates its need, and the NSW Government is meeting this demand.

“Service NSW makes it easy for members of the community to book in for a driving test, which can be done by visiting the Service NSW website, dropping in to a Service NSW Centre or calling 13 77 88.”

Macquarie Fields Driver Testing Centre, located at Building H Ground Floor of the TAFE Campus on 32 Victoria Road, is open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
