Cultural Carnivale, two concerts of music and dance at the Campbelltown arts centre on June 30 is shaping up as the cultural event of the year in Macarthur.
A rich tapestry of global musical traditions, from the Scottish Highlands to Peru and the Americas to Asia, will hit the stage at Cultural Carnivale.
Behind this big cultural event is the South West Sydney Orchestras (SWSO), with Multicultural NSW providing the funding to make it happen.
SWSO is a local community orchestra comprising musicians from across the Macarthur, Wollondilly, and Liverpool local government areas dedicated to bringing diverse musical experiences to the community and fostering a love for the arts.
“We are thrilled to bring Cultural Carnivale to Campbelltown, celebrating the diverse cultural landscape of our community,” says Jennifer Beh, president of SWSO.
“This event not only showcases a wide range of artistic expressions but also fosters understanding and unity among different cultural groups.’’
Cultural Carnivale will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Campbelltown Arts Centre, with the first concert at 1pm and the second at 3pm.
The ensembles of South West Sydney Orchestras (SWSO) will be the audience’s guide, taking them on a musical tour of the cultures of the local community, from Australia to Asia, Europe, the Americas and beyond.
SWSO will be joined in concert by a hand-picked selection of local cultural performance groups who will each provide a short performance.
Featured artists and performances include the Campbelltown Camden District Band, which will bring the power of American big brass favorites to the stage.
Ingleburn Pipes and Drums will offer a journey to the Scottish Highlands with their stirring renditions of popular tunes that evoke the spirit and tradition of Scotland.
Brisas del Peru (pictured at right): This group promises a vibrant presentation of Peruvian dance, complete with traditional costumes.
Ranuaakan Dance Group will showcase the traditional dance forms of India, while interactive cultural sessions will include a performance by Suna Lau Flynn, who plays Chinese traditional instruments such as erhu, pipa, violin and others.
Drawing on her experience as director of Musicano Fusion Ensemble, Suna will provide an immersive experience into the sounds and stories behind these ancient instruments.
Ha Dinh Patmore will guide an interactive exploration of Vietnamese instruments.
