As 2024 Youth Week kicks off, students have been chalking up pavements around Campbelltown to save their all ages music festival, Scream It Out, going the way of recent music festival cancellations.

It’s just one way that the student organising committee is trying to get the word out to young people across South Western Sydney that they are invited to this unique festival.
Hurlstone Agricultural High School has played host to Scream It Out for the past three years, and despite the current cost of living crisis, students are determined to keep this important event in the Youth Week calendar this April.
With the headlining bands playing for free, a council grant and a donation from Stephen Edwards Constructions, who are upgrading the school’s boarding facilities and farm hub, ticket prices have been able to be kept at a low $20, or $70 for a “squad pack’’ for four.
Young punters will be able to support the many local young bands who are performing on both the outdoor performance space and on the main stage.
They’ll also experience the thrill of headlining bands including Carmeria, Blake Williams and Pyrefly.
With local young people rating mental health as their number one concern and priority, this festival not only raises important funds to support headspace Campbelltown, a youth mental health service, but also provides a forum for discussion about positive mental health strategies.
A dedicated panel of experts from headspace will hit the main stage to directly support the wellbeing of attendees.
Scream it Out was started by Jerry Zahija who is a music teacher and year advisor at Hurlstone and lead guitarist of Carmeria.
Each year he’s worked with a student committee to organise this amazing event, which, in Jerry’s words, was designed to destigmatise mental health conversations and empower young people.
