The 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer is celebrating its 20th year in 2024 and it has five million reasons to celebrate.
As chairman Warren Morrison confirmed last week during a tour of the Macarthur cancer therapy centre at Campbelltown Hospital, the popular charity has now raised more than $5 million.
The result has been helping the local cancer therapy centre become one of the best in the country.
For several years the Campbelltown Hospital cancer therapy centre has been voted the best in NSW, and much of the credit has gone to the money raised by 24 Hour.
“We are starting our festivities in 2024 by offering our sponsors and supporters a chance to see and hear for yourselves about the amazing contribution that 24 Hour funding has made to the people of Macarthur dealing with cancer,’’ Mr Morrison told 24 Hour sponsors who joined members of the committee on a tour of the therapy centre last week.
Cancer therapy and palliative care at Camden Hospital has also benefitted from funding raised by 24 Hour over the last 19 years.
“The money from 24 Hour has ensured that locals who come for cancer therapy here get exceptional care,’’ sponsors were told.
Following some speeches, including from Dr Annette Tongela, the director of the world class cancer therapy centre, sponsors split up into small groups and were taken on the various parts of the centre, including the chemotherapy room.
A cancer centre nurse briefed guests on how cancer treatment is organised and delivered to patients, and took questions after that.
Mr Morrison was also presented with a certificate of appreciation from South Western Sydney Local Health District for the contribution 24 Hour has made to cancer care in the region.
