A woman has been charged after at least eight vehicles were hit following a short police pursuit which started in the Southern Highlands yesterday.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol – Traffic Taskforce initiated the pursuit with a grey Mazda 3 on Monday morning when it was spotted allegedly speeding north along the Hume Highway at Pheasants Nest.
The pursuit was terminated after about 10km due to safety concerns; however, the vehicle continued to be monitored by road and air.
It continued to be followed along the Hume Highway through outer South Western Sydney, including Campbelltown, then on to Casula, turning onto the Cumberland Highway to Liverpool, Cabramatta, Fairfield West, Smithfield and Merrylands where it turned onto the M4.
The driver continued east to Prospect, Blacktown, then travelled along the Great Western Highway to Wentworthville, then onto the Cumberland Highway to Toongabbie and Old Windsor Road.
Police allege at least two vehicles were struck by the hatchback during this time, as well as a police vehicle.
Shortly before midday, the hatchback came to a stop at Northmead, after the driver allegedly hit five vehicles.
A 30-year-old Victorian woman was arrested at the scene and was taken to Merrylands Police Station, where she was charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h.
Other charges included refusing to stop during a police pursuit, speeding, driving recklessly or furiously or in a dangerous manner and not give particulars to another driver.
She was refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court (Tuesday 2 January 2023).
A male officer was treated at hospital as a precaution after injuring his hand during the arrest. There have been no other injuries reported.
