The Macarthur FC group stage fixture in the AFC Cup against Myanmar’s Shan United FC scheduled for this Thursday at Campbelltown Stadium has been moved to BG Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
This move to a neutral venue follows the Australian Government declining to grant Australian visas for Shan United FC players and officials, meaning there was no viable way of playing the game on Australian soil.
The change of venue has also affected the weekend’s scheduled Bulls round six A-League home match against Adelaide United.
This match has been moved to next Monday, December 4 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium for a 7pm kick-off.
The Bulls dropped to sixth on the ladder following their 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory at Campbelltown Stadium last Friday night, pictured.
However, they sit atop of Group F in the AFC Cup and did not want to forfeit the match against Shan United FC.
In a media statement issued yesterday, Sam Krslovic, CEO of Macarthur FC, said the club explored a number of possibilities after being informed last week Shan United would not be granted entry visas to Australia by the Federal Government.
“Macarthur FC would like to offer its sincere gratitude to BG Pathum United FC for its overwhelming hospitality, support and assistance in hosting this game,’’ he said.
“In addition, the club would like to thank the AFC, Thai Football Federation and Football Australia (in particular Mark Falvo and his team) for positive collaboration within such a challenging short timeframe.
“To all those who purchased tickets to Match Day 5 of the AFC Cup, you will receive a full refund.
“Tickets will be automatically refunded in full to the original payment method used for purchase.
“To our members, fans and sponsors, we look forward to hosting everyone in our A-League Round 6 home fixture against Adelaide on Monday.’’
