Wollondilly R U OK? day ambassador and local MP Judy Hannan says it’s time for the delivery of services to the area.
“For too long we have been delivered nothing but more homes and no infrastructure,’’ she said.
“This includes medical facilities and mental health facilities.
“I committed if elected that I would call for these extra services and in raising these today I hope they become the policy and output of tomorrow,’’ Ms Hannan said.
The Wollondilly MP said she had asked the State Government to provide vital mental health services in Wollondilly to cater for the current and growing population.
Ms Hannan was speaking at last week’s Business Brekkie as part of the 2023 R U OK? Day in Victoria Park, Picton, pictured above.
“As an R U OK? day ambassador I was proud to sponsor the Business Brekkie in Picton today and promote R U OK? day to the businesses in Wollondilly,’’ she said.
“With the distances in Wollondilly between villages many locals feel isolated.
“For me the most important thing is to build connectedness, so that we can come together and then others finally listen to us.”
The motion from Ms Hannan said the NSW Parliament:
1. Recognises physical access to healthcare services is a concern for rural communities, primarily in outlying towns and properties within Wollondilly and Wingecarribee LGAs.
2. Notes there is a need for locally based mental health services and facilities that are adaptable to the growing population, highlighted by the Western Sydney Health Alliance submissions to NSW Health and the NSW Government to date.
3. Calls on the NSW Government to answer these submissions positively by providing services in Wollondilly that the community deserve rather than just more houses on flattened landscapes.’’
