Western Suburbs Magpies say they do not support a complaint lodged by their former chairman Shannon Cavanagh against Wests Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis, pictured above.
The complaint has been lodged with the Legal Services Commission.
In a statement issued by current Western Suburbs Magpies chairman Dennis Burgess, deputy Rick Wayde and club general manager Leo Epifania, they say: “Western Suburbs Magpies does not support the complaint’’.
“In the disciplinary proceedings concerning Mr Cavanagh that were undertaken recently, there was no evidence to suggest that Mr Hagipantelis had fabricated evidence or induced others to do so,’’ they say in the statement.
“Western Suburbs Magpies regrets any embarrassment or hurt caused to Mr Hagipantelis by Mr Cavanagh’s conduct and affirms its full support of Mr Hagipantelis as chairman of Wests Tigers.
“Wests Magpies continues to work with our family group, Wests Ashfield (Holman Barnes Group) and Wests Tigers as a unified organisation.
“Wests Magpies’ focus is firmly on the recent achievements and developments at Lidcombe Oval, such as the new seating in the Tommy Raudonikis OAM grandstand and the improvement to dressing rooms and other facilities.
“We look forward to hosting the KOE Kelly-Sattler Cup clash next Sunday at 2pm at Lidcombe between Wests Magpies and South Sydney, preceded by the Wests Tigers versus South Sydney Jersey Flegg match at noon.
In other club news, Wests Tigers have announced that Apisai Koroisau has extended his contract at the club through until the end of the 2026 season.
The three-time premiership winner and NSW Origin hooker says he’s excited about the future at Wests Tigers.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to further demonstrate my commitment to the club,” Koroisau said.
“I’m also excited to be working with the young talent we have coming through and helping them to become great NRL players.’’
Wests Tigers head coach Tim Sheens says Koroisau’s contract extension is a huge boost for the club.
“He is a great leader, and he has done a wonderful job this season,’’ Sheens said.
“I think it’s tremendous news for our club and for Api.’’
