Pacing for Pink has officially drawn to a close for 2023 at Club Menangle, with $16,295 raised for the McGrath Foundation.

The money will go towards the foundation’s breast care nurses program.

Across the nine meetings held at the track, Club Menangle donated $200 for each win recorded by a driver in the Pink Pants at Club Menangle, $200 for each female training win and $200 for each win by a horse carrying saddlecloth Number 8.

Overall, 63 pink wins contributed to Club Menangle’s donation, including wins by Don Hugo on May 9, that recorded a $600 donation from donning saddlecloth Number 8, trained by leading female trainer Belinda McCarthy and also driven by Luke McCarthy wearing the pink pants.

The win by Polly Put Kettleon also added another $600 donation as she wore the Number 8 saddlecloth and is also trained and driven by Sofia Arvidsson, who was donning the pink pants.

“It was our second consecutive year being involved in the Pacing For Pink campaign, and it is fantastic to see that it has again been a great success,’’ says Club Menangle chief executive officer Bruce Christison.

“Congratulations and thank you to all participants, sponsors and guests of Club Menangle who supported the Pacing For Pink campaign.’’

On Tuesday, May 30, Club Menangle turned pink for the second edition of Pacing For Pink High Tea as guests came together to raise additional funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation.

The afternoon was filled with plenty of excitement on and off the track. Not only did guests enjoy bubbles, sweet and savoury treats and entertainment, but there was also action-packed harness racing – with seven pink winners for the day.

Sky Racing presenter Cassie Fahey was the master of ceremonies for the afternoon and was joined by NSW premier harness racing caller Fred Hastings, who provided tips before media personality and trainer-driver Brittany Graham spoke about her career.

McGrath breast care nurse Erin Williamson also addressed guests about the vital work of the McGrath Foundation.

The foundation’s mission is to ensure that no one goes through breast cancer without the care of a nurse.

Currently it funds 185 McGrath breast care nurses in communities right across Australia, who have supported over 110,000 families since 2005.

“Pacing For Pink would like to extend a very big thank you to Club Menangle for their support,’’ said Marg Watson, Pacing for Pink coordinator.

“We are enormously grateful the initiatives supported by Club Menangle have helped raise funds and also assisted in increasing awareness about breast cancer.’’
