In July last year, detectives attached to Camden Police Area Command established Strike Force Wooroonga after receiving a report in July last year, that a local businessman had allegedly misappropriated more than $24 million of his clients’ investments.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives attached to Queensland Police’s Coomera CIB arrested a 40-year-old man on Hope Island on Monday, by virtue of a NSW Police arrest warrant.
When the man appeared in the Southport Watchhouse on Tuesday, NSW Police detectives successfully applied for the man’s extradition.
The man was refused police bail to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today (Wednesday, May 10), charged with dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
Camden Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury, said they would be alleging in court the man targeted ‘mum and dad-type’ investors as well as other business owners.
“This arrest is the result of almost a year’s persistence and hard work by the Camden PAC detectives, assisted by our colleagues in the Queensland Police Service,’’ Det Ch Insp Albury said.
“We will be alleging in court that this man targeted ‘mum and dad-type’ investors as well as other business owners.
“We encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a crime such as this to contact police,’’ he said.

A man and a teenage boy from Minto have been charged after an investigation into a number of stealing and fraud offences in the state’s Macarthur region.
On Monday 1 May 2023, officers attached to the Camden Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into a number of steal from motor vehicle offences and an aggravated break and enter in Harrington Park.
Following extensive inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at Styles Crescent, Minto about 8.30am last Thursday.
During the search, police located bank cards, cash and numerous car keys, which were seized to undergo further forensic examination.
A 38-year-old man and a teenage boy were arrested at the scene and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.
The 16-year-old was charged with 16 offences, and refused bail to appear at a children’s court on June 5.
A 38-year-old man was charged with seven counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception. He was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow, Thursday, May 11.
Police will allege in court the young person was involved in the aggravated Harrington Park break and enter, as well as numerous stealing from motor vehicles offences, while the man used the stolen credit cards.

Have you seen this teenage girl missing for more than a week? Telisa Brown, aged 14, was last seen at Thomas Reddall High, Woodhouse Drive, Ambarvale, about 8.15am eight days ago.
After failing to return home – and when she was unable to be contacted or located – officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries to locate her.
Family and police hold concerns for her welfare due to her age.
Telisa is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, about 150cm – 160cm tall, of average build, with dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
She was last seen wearing a school uniform consisting of a grey and maroon plaid skirt, and maroon jumper.
