Manslaughter charge over death of woman who fell off bonnet

A man has had his charges upgraded to manslaughter following the death of a woman who fell from the bonnet of a car in Peppin Crescent, Airds last Thursday.

The driver of the car, a 43-year-old man who is known to the woman, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing before being taking to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and appeared in Campbelltown Local Court a day later.

Investigators were subsequently advised the 40 year old woman had died in hospital.

As a consequence, the man’s charges have now been upgraded to manslaughter, dangerous driving occasioning death, and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Police will allege in court the woman was injured after falling from the bonnet of a car being driven by the man.

The accused was due to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (February 7.

In a separate incident, a man was due to appear in Liverpool Local Court today charged over an alleged carjacking and pursuit yesterday morning.

Just after 9am officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a blue Suzuki on Hoxton Park Road, Green Valley.

When the driver failed to comply, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through surrounding suburbs.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns; however, the vehicle was seen entering the carpark of a shopping centre on George Street, Liverpool.

It is alleged the driver then left the vehicle, running through the shopping centre.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short time later following a coordinated response involving the North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the Dog Unit.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of a hand injury. The man was released into police custody late yesterday and has now been charged with six offences, including robbery while armed with dangerous weapon and destroy or damage property.
