The night sky over Campbelltown will soon come alive with the return of fireworks at upcoming marquee events including New Year’s Eve and Australia Day.
The fireworks will be launched from Bradbury Oval and will be visible from Koshigaya Park, where the celebrations will be held.
The location has been chosen to alleviate any potential impacts to the Campbelltown Grey Headed Flying Fox Camp located west of the rail line and is more than double the distance required by environmental legislation.
“Over these past few years, bushfires and the Covid pandemic have forced the cancellation and downscaling of many community events and celebrations,’’ says the Mayor of Campbelltown, George Greiss.
“So it’s very exciting to see the return of our large scale events such as Festival of Fisher’s Ghost and New Year’s Eve to the Campbelltown CBD,” he said.
“It will be fantastic to see the community out and about again, coming together to enjoy these family focused events,” Cr Greiss said.
“To minimise the impact on the Grey Headed Flying Fox colony we have been careful to move the location to Bradbury Oval and will be liaising with wildlife carers in the lead up to each event,’’
Fireworks have been traditionally launched from Bradbury Oval during the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost and will be again this year.
Residents are also being reminded that fireworks can scare animals.
If your pet animal tends to be frightened by loud noises, make sure you keep them restrained or inside the house on New Year’s Eve.
Surrounding residents will be notified prior to events with details around the timing of fireworks.
