Campbelltown’s major central business districts will benefit from a new cleansing program to improve their everyday aesthetic and cleanliness.

As part of the $350,000 investment, extra staff will be sweeping roads, collecting litter, cleaning assets and infrastructure and improved weed control and landscape maintenance in the Campbelltown and Ingleburn CBDs.

Council recently purchased a new hot water pressure cleaner and is seeking to employ additional staff as part of the program.

“It is important that our public spaces reflect the pride that residents have in our city and leave a good impression on people visiting our city,” said Mayor George Greiss, who checked out the cleaner last week.

“Our CBDs are some of the busiest places in Campbelltown so this new investment will help to ensure they are cleaner and more presentable,” Cr Greiss said.

The initiative is part of a wider $2.4 million city amenity and appeal program that will also see the acceleration of new shade sails projects at local parks, facility improvements at leisure and childcare centres and investment to improve public space assets.

“I look forward to seeing the presentation of our public spaces enhanced over the coming months as this investment begins to flourish and further improvements to our public domain get under way,” Cr Greiss said.

  • In the meantime, local food lovers looking to immerse themselves in a night of culture, colour and cuisine will want to visit Lithgow Street on Saturday, October 8 for Spice It Up.

The one-night-only event will bring a range of entertainment to the Campbelltown CBD alongside special meal deals at nine local restaurants representing a range of cultural cuisines.

Spice It Up will showcase three themed spaces, including:

Forum Q, stylised as an alfresco dining space with decorative festoon lighting.

Anzac Lane as Spice Lane, a colourful and interactive space featuring chill out furniture and a live DJ performing throughout the night.

Lithgow Street as Sweet Street, complete with dessert trucks, a mini ferris wheel, mini carousel, mixed toy ride, face painting and a special kids zone.

“This is a great opportunity for locals to explore the diverse culture and cuisine already on offer in our CBD,” says Mayor Greiss.

“By putting a spotlight on local businesses and activating our streetscapes, this event gives a new perspective on the many unique food businesses residents might have seen in passing but never had the chance to explore,” he said.

Spice It Up will take place between 5pm and 10pm on Saturday, October 8.

Up to 500 free $10 vouchers will be offered to those attending to eat at one of the participating restaurants and cafes.

A select number of vouchers will be available to book online before the event. A limited number of vouchers can also be collected on the night.

A map highlighting participating businesses and zones will be made available online prior to the event and on the evening. Details on Council’s website.
