Indigenous football side to take on local police team

There will be more at stake than winning a game of football when the Camden Tigers Indigenous Football Program (IFP) take on a team representing the police local area command this Saturday.

The match will kick off at 5.15 at the home of the Camden Tigers, Ron Dine Memorial Reserve.

It will include a flag raising ceremony as well as a welcome to country, while the game will be livestreamed for those that can’t attend on the day.

IFP director Phil says this inaugural clash will provide a taste of football with a difference.

“With this event the Camden Tigers’ IFP is stepping up its vision of social inclusion, family focus and community awareness,’’ he said.

“We acknowledge the Police Commissioner and his staff, they’ve been terrific,’’ Mr Dotti said.

“This is the community working together for the best outcome, sharing, enjoying and building better relationships.’’

As part of the day’s activities, the IFP will also acknowledge local charity 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur.

“This charity is very special because cancer does not discriminate,’’ he said.

“That is why it is so important that as a football organisation the IFP is taking a lead role in awareness of cancer and what this charity does about it.

“We are very proud at the Tigers’ IFP to provide an opportunity for the whole community and local business sector to get behind a worthwhile cause.

“At the IFP we build bridges – not brick walls.’’

Camden Tigers President Rod Ciantar said the club fully support events that bring the community together.

“The IFP are very community minded and committed, and the NSW Police have been outstanding in their contribution to Saturday’s event,’’ he said.

“It’s all systems go for Saturday, and we are preparing for a big crowd.’’
