Camden Council has reduced sport ground fees by half. The decision was made at last night’s ordinary meeting.
Regular hirers of local sportsgrounds for winter will see their fees halved after floods and wet weather impacted large parts of their season this year.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli said it was important to support regular hirers for the long-term sustainability of local sport.
“Council is committed to supporting our local sports clubs which we believe are the lifeblood of our community,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Between March and June this year our sportsgrounds were closed or under conditional status for 116 days which has severely impacted sporting clubs’ ability to train or play sport.
“We are all about helping our community in any way possible and I am proud to help our winter season sporting clubs and regular hirers by reducing their fees by 50 per cent.”
Council has waived fees for regular hirers of its sportsgrounds a number of times throughout the pandemic, including for the 2021-22 summer sport season.
In other council news, local young people will receive continued support in the community after Camden Youth Strategy 2022-26 was given the green light at last night’s meeting.
The strategy, developed in consultation with almost 1,500 local young people, sets council’s strategic framework for local young people, ensuring high quality and consistent support meets the changing needs of Camden’s growing community.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli said it is important to support the area’s local young people.
“Council is dedicated to fostering the future of our local young people and the youth strategy goes a long way to prioritising the support needed,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Young people aged 12-24 years make up 16.5 per cent of the total Camden population as per the Census 2021, so it’s important we assist them as they go through their formative years by establishing the support and services they need and ensuring they feel heard and valued.
“It was vital to include our local young people in developing this strategy and I am glad to have had close to 1,500 give their feedback on what is most important to them as we work together to support them.”
