Campbelltown MP Greg Warren is leading the charge against the state government and its “historic neglect’’ of Western and South Western Sydney.
Mr Warren, who is also the opposition spokesman on Western Sydney, joined forces with Prospect MP Hugh McDermott and Blacktown MP Stephen Bali to attack the government in parliament this week.
He described the government’s treatment of the region as “diabolical’’.
Mr Warren said historic under funding of Sydney’s West and South West and the targeted Covid-19 lockdowns indicated just how little the government valued the region’s residents.
“We have seen one standard for the west and a whole different standard for the rest of Sydney,’’ he said.
“Sydney’s east get public transport and the rest in the west get tolls.
“I urge the members [of the NSW Government] opposite to get their priorities right.”
Mr McDermott was equally scathing in his assessment of the NSW Government’s treatment of the fastest growing region in the state.
“We saw so clearly during the Covid-19 pandemic that this government has created two Sydneys – us in Western Sydney, then everyone else,” he said.
“What a disgrace.
“The west needs schools, hospitals, libraries, parks, roads and public transport links to open up the economy.”
Mr Bali said the population of the Blacktown local government area was set to increase by 200,000, yet basic infrastructure remained nothing but a pipedream under the current Liberal Government.
“Only 13 local government areas have larger populations yet when it comes to public transport accessibility, Blacktown is rated towards the bottom,” he said.
“There is not even a high school in Marsden Park – where 30,000 people are moving into.
“Government members are a disgrace and should hang their heads in shame.”
