The mass vaccination hub at Macquarie Fields will have the capacity to deliver up to 20,000 jabs a week.
Announced this morning, we can now reveal that it will be open in the old Coles store at Glenquarie shopping centre from the end of this month.
South Western Sydney Local Health District chief executive Amanda Larkin said the new centre was an important step forward in the national rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“We are delighted to host this new vaccination centre and our staff are working hard to transform the site into a clinic capable of vaccinating up to 20,000 people a week, depending on supply,’’ Ms Larkin said.
“The new centre will be a wonderful opportunity for people across the region to receive their vaccinations close to home and to help protect themselves, their families and the community from Covid-19.
“The centre will initially open six days a week and significantly increase our capacity to offer vaccination to the community.’’
About 85 nurses, 20 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, 50 health discipline students and five IT specialists will be working at the South Western Sydney Vaccination Centre to administer the Pfizer vaccine.
The vaccination centre will operate in addition to the Liverpool Vaccination Clinic, which has delivered more than 69,000 vaccinations since it opened in February.
“Both vaccination centres are an important part of our Covid-19 response, which includes our testing clinics, health screening stations and all of our other work to protect our community,’’ Ms Larkin said.
“I thank our dedicated staff for their ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.’’
