A man charged with the alleged sexual assault of a child last year was today refused bail when he appeared in Campbelltown Local Court.

In May 2019, police from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad received reports about the alleged sexual assault of a 14 year old girl by a man known to her.

Following extensive inquiries, about 9.40am yesterday (Thursday), detectives attended a home in Airds to speak with a 28-year-old man.

Police say the man threatened officers with a knife and refused to cooperate.

Further police were alerted and officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command attended, with assistance from the South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group.

Campbelltown Local Court.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Having sexual intercourse with child between 14 and 16 years (three counts);
  • Contravening prohibition/restriction in an AVO (apprehended violence order);
  • Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention;
  • Armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police allege the man sexually assaulted one girl – whilst she was aged 14 – over a period of months, and also breached the terms of an AVO.

When the accused appeared in Campbelltown Local Court earlier today he was refused bail to reappear at the same court on February 10 next year.
