Macarthur company sings praises of workplace program for students

Companies like award winning 32 Degrees Building are always on the lookout for quality apprentices and tradespeople and what better way than to start at school.

32 Degrees Building is a Macarthur company operating out of Smeaton Grange.

They have been offering Year 11 and 12 students who are studying construction as part of their HSC valuable week long work placements since 2013.

They want to connect to the workforce of the future to showcase their industry and trade.

32 Degrees Building give two students every week the opportunity to see if a career in construction is the right choice for them.

It is also a great way to interview says director Alistair Robertson.

“These students have their white card, a basic knowledge of workplace health and safety and the industry in general.

“They assist skilled tradesmen in the demolition and construction of addition and extension builds.”

32 Degrees have a passion for training and development and enjoy taking on the students.

Their point of difference is that they are very hands on with no pre-fabricated material.

They are focused on quality outcomes and old fashioned values, where students are taught to respect their clients and their work.

Alistair is a strong advocate of the work placement program run by local company MWLP.

His message to other construction companies is loud and clear: “All companies should get involved.

“We need to get young people trained properly in the workforce.

“We are always looking for apprentices and this is not only great for us but ideal for the students.”

MWLP Linking Youth CEO, Dr David Williams, agrees.

“With the mounting evidence surrounding the shortage of tradespeople, especially in the construction Industry, it is encouraging to see organisations like 32 Degrees Building connecting to the workforce of the future while they are still at school.”
